About

Josh DeCelles is an American artist currently working and residing in Brooklyn, NY. He was born in Santa Fe, NM, and grew up on the Nambe Pueblo Indian reservation. Spending much of his youth between the Canyon Road gallery where his mother worked, and the studio of his stone-sculptor father; Josh was immersed in the art world early on. His father's heroes were his first inspirations. He would study and copy Michelangelo, Bernini, and Rodin until he found his own heroes to emulate. These were the comic book and graffiti artists that continue to inform and challenge the artist's style and approach to art. Briefly attending the Institute of American Indian Arts allowed Joshua to learn from and work with other Native artists. This, along with living in various cities across the US has given him a unique perspective on culture and the American experience.
